Cambridge, Wednesday and the response on Tuesday night

Sheffield Wednesday return to action against Cambridge United with the focus firmly on response after the defeat at Doncaster. The game offers an early chance to reset, and the main question for supporters is which version of Wednesday turns up at Hillsborough: the side that looked stretched on the road, or the one capable of putting together a sharper, more controlled performance at home.

Cambridge do not need to be over-complicated to pose a problem. Wednesday will need to manage the first phase carefully, avoid gifting territory, and make sure the game does not become one where the visitors settle quickly and slow the tempo. If the home side start well, the match should suit them. If they start slowly, Cambridge will sense an opening.

The selection call is therefore less about wholesale change and more about whether Wednesday keep faith with the players who handled the Doncaster challenge, or freshen the side while keeping the same core.
